Våra ord och begrepp
Här har vi samlat viktiga begrepp för att beskriva den ideella kultursektorn och vår roll i kulturpolitiken. Många av dessa ord används ofta – men inte alltid på samma sätt. Därför vill vi förklara vad vi menar, och varför begreppen spelar roll för ett levande kulturliv, en stark demokrati och alla människors rätt till kultur på egna villkor.
Ideell eller idéburen organisation
En ideell eller idéburen organisation är en verksamhet som drivs utan ekonomiska vinstsyften, är självständig från det offentliga och bygger på demokratiska värderingar. Organisationen fungerar ofta som en mötesplats där människor kan engagera sig kring gemensamma intressen och påverka samhället tillsammans.
Även om verksamheten huvudsakligen bärs av ideella insatser, kan organisationen anlita professionella eller ha anställda när det behövs. Begreppet ideell eller idéburen organisation används ofta synonymt med ”civilsamhället”.

Vi ser den ideella kultursektorn som en avgörande kraft i kulturlivet, eftersom den möjliggör att människor över hela landet kan skapa, uppleva och utveckla kultur på egna villkor, ofta i nära samverkan med lokalsamhället och andra engagerade aktörer.
